Motels vs B&B's--What is the Difference?
When people call they usually are calling to ask if
1) do we have an available room and 2) what are our rates. Even though our rates are lower than any other Bed & Breakfast
within a 20 mile radius, if I start out by telling them our rates, they generally say "I'll call you back."
They never do. Therefore, I have begun to ask the question, "have you ever stayed in a B&B before?" Most of
the time they say "no." This group of callers have one thing in common, they think a B&B is like a motel.
The rates for B&B's are generally higher than your average motel stay, but our clientele are looking for a
different type of venue. At a motel you get a room with private bath, TV in your room with basic 4 or 5 channels and you pay
for specials like movies, snacks in your room, etc. If that's what a person is looking for, then that is where they
need to go.
At Thistle House, we have rooms with a private bath, TV with cable access to 100+ channels, VHS and
DVD availability in our "living room," access to the kitchen, dining area and 3 1/2 acres of landscaped, wooded
yard with a fish pond. We also have snacks and deserts available AT NO EXTRA CHARGE and a 4 course gourmet breakfast in the
morning that we would compare with any restaurant fare, also AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. In addition, we are the ONLY place to stay
in Granite Falls. I always find it interesting that people would rather spend money on gas and breakfast to stay at
a motel that is 7 to 10 miles away, rather than to pay one price for everything right here in town.
Said one caller,
"Oh, when you put it that way, I guess it WOULD be cheaper, wouldn't it."

Yes, Virginia, there really is a Granite Falls!
In the four months that we lived in this adorable little town, we wondered if there really was a Falls that the town was named
for. We drove to the river, over to the lake, down to the dam at Rhodhiss (a little town south of us) and still had
not found the REAL Granite Falls. Then one day a neighbor told us, "yes there is a Granite Falls" and told us how
to get there. It wasn't easy. Parking our car next to the reservoir and walking along its banks, and behind a gated
community that sits up on a cliff, we could hear in the distance the roar of falling water. At the end of the reservoir there
is a bridge over a dam and were we excited. Hiking down to the base and walking along the rapids we determined to come
back and take pictures. It is a beautiful spot behind a mill where, even during the water shortage we have had over the summer
and autumn, the water crashed over multi-colored rocks of granite and down through a rapids below.

Additonal information
- SMOKING POLICY: For the comfort of our guests, smoking is not permitted in the house, but you are
welcome to smoke outside.
CHILDREN: Our establishment is not suitable for children under the age of 10. Parents are responsible
for any breakage or damage caused by their children. - PETS: While we
have no facilities for pets, we can arrange for boarding. Also, we hope you will enjoy our AKC Registered Sheltie, Lady Bell
Burnett.
HANDICAPPED: At the present time, we are
not handicapped accessible, as our rooms are on the second floor. However, we have plans to make these
improvements in the near future, so feel free to check back at that time.
